First Irish company to make world finals

Galway company Solaris Botanicals has been chosen one of six semi-finalists in the Junior Chamber's Creative Young Entrepreneur of the World Award.
Chosen from entrants from over 110 countries, the makers of speciality teas are the first Irish company to be chosen for this competition since its inception in 2005.
Joerg Muller, founder of Solaris Botanicals, said this week: "I am thrilled with our nomination. We've put a lot of work into establishing a company that delivers a superior product and we are very proud to be representing Ireland and more specifically, Galway in this event".
Joergs' nomination follows his success in being nominated Galway's Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2008, and is indicative of the changing trend in consumer focus.
The YCE programme highlights this change; showcasing young creative talent in entrepreneurs aged 25-35 and recognising the importance of creative entrepreneurs in the development of sustainable and competitive economies. The winner will be chosen later this year when the three finalists travel to Tunisia for the JCI World Congress, where the winner will be announced.
A second success for Solaris Botanicals is their recent winning of four Gold Stars in the Great Taste Awards. Organised by the Guild of Fine Foods, the Great Taste Awards is considered the Oscars of the Speciality food and drink industry and all entrants undergo rigorous testing by a specially selected panel of experts. This years judges included Alex James farmer, writer and bass-player with Blur, chef Mark Hix, and Thomasina Miers of Masterchef fame.
Solaris Botanicals won a Gold Star each for their Jasmine Dragon Pearl Tea, Chunmee Green Tea, Rooibos Chocolate Chai and the celebrity weight-loss tea, King of Pu-Erh.
Considering that this competition attracted 4,790 entries from over 1,018 food producers, this achievement is substantial, bringing the number of Great Taste Awards achieved by Solaris Botanicals, in only three years to 10.
Specialising in the blending of Organic Whole Leaf Speciality Teas, and Herbal Teas Solaris Botanicals range covers Organic Green Teas, White Teas, Oolong, Pu-Erh, and a select range of speciality black teas. All their packaging is bio-degradeable and sustainably sourced and they are Irelands only blenders of organic teas
