Seaweed has been used for many generations in Ireland for its health giving properties!
Naturally high in over 80 vitamins and minerals, as well as precious oils, seaweed relieves aches and pains, softens the skin and restores balance leaving you feeling deeply cleansed and revitalised.
History Of Seaweed Baths:
Seaweed Bath Houses came to Ireland during the Edwardian era, with about 300 seaweed-specific spots scattered around the country at the start of the 20th Century. A mainstay of the hardy to help them sail through the cold period, they have since become a well deserved trendsetter for spa lovers and old timers alike.
In fact some of my fondest childhood memories are revelling in pools of squishy seaweed. My first authentic seaweed bath experience was on the rugged shores of Co Sligo in Enniscrone. Rustic to the last with a freestanding enamel bathtubs, ice cold seawater showers, sit in, guillotine style steam boxes and off course oozles of squishy steaming seaweed. Bliss and great fun :)
Since then many have been added, dotted around the country- Voya in Strandhill, Connemara Seaweed Baths in Leenane are a few I've had the enormous pleasure to enjoy.
Supporting Local Producers, Reducing Carbon Footprint:
We are very excited to have found a local producer for Organic Connemara Seaweed from the pristine shores of the West Coast of Ireland.
Here at Solaris we are all about supporting our local communities, using native plants and also to reduce our carbon footprint.
The Connemara Seaweed Company is a small-scale, local producer who is committed to providing food from our waters and contributing to a low-carbon economy that takes care of its environment. They hope and believe that seaweed becomes part of everyone’s life and that we come to recognise it for what it is. A superfood, both environmentally and nutritionally. What makes this so enormously important is the pride these producers hold to work with the rhythm and flow of the sea. Harvesting sustainably is crucial to make this a long term vision.
Once used the Seaweed can be composted to supply nourishment to your garden or plants.

About Karin Mueller:
Karin Mueller is co-owner of Solaris tea and has been working in the field of wellness and health for over 20 years now. She is a Medical Herbalist (BSc Hons), practising Midwife (BSc Hons), Massage and Spa therapist and experienced course facilitator and teacher on a wide range of topics related to mindfulness, meditation and women’s health. She is currently also studying in the ‘Medicine of Light’ school to deepen her spiritual practise.
